Frightmare Mansion started out when Justin, then 14, was grounded from Trick-Or-Treating in San Jose, California. He decorated the front of his parents house and hid in the bushes and scared kids. From that night on he was hooked. His decorations started getting bigger and better but were limited to the front yard.

After Justin and Melanie got married they decided to put on a Walk-Through Haunted House. The Walk-Through started at Justin’s parent’s house in their garage. Now that Melanie and Justin have their own home here in Fernley the Haunted House has moved with them. Justin’s parents still have Trick-Or-Treaters, young and old, stopping by their house to find out where the Haunted House has gone.

Frightmare Mansion is a fun, scary experience, NOT GORY. We will even tone it down for the younger kids. So everyone can come and enjoy our Haunted House.

If you find joy in scaring kids of all ages and would like to volunteer, we are looking for:

  • Actors for the nights we are open (no experience necessary, just the ability to scream loudly).
  • People who like to be behind the scenes to help us set up the Haunted House or even on the evenings we are open for those last minute odds and ends. Justin and Melanie can’t do it all themselves.
  • Items you would like to donate, they do not have to be “Halloween” related, and you would be surprised how many “non-Halloween” items we use. Just call or email us with items you want to get rid of and we’ll tell you if we can put them to good use in our Haunted House.
  • Of course, money. We spend well over $1,500 per year and any help is appreciated, especially since we do not, nor will we ever, charge for the Frightmare Mansion

If you would like to read one of the newspaper articles on our haunted house last year check it out here.

You may have guessed from our website address that Melanie and Justin are the owners of the locally run Hanly’s Hounds Pooper Scoopers.
